The i-doc connects 50 case studies, identifiable as icons on a map that ideally conjoins Gdańsk, Turin and Rotterdam in a single digital canvas, crossed by a stylized river symbolizing the important waterways that characterize the life and topography of each city: the Vistula and port waters of the gulf of Gdańsk, the Dora and Po in Turin, and the Rhine/Meuse estuary in Rotterdam.
Move the mouse over the map to start. Click on the buildings that pop out. When you click on the sites, coloured lines will pop up. These lines are divided by colour, and they correspond to the four research categories we use in our research: Solidarity, Diversity, Skill and Scale.
You can then click on the top right button to open the sidebar. The sidebar has a dial on the top and information boxes in the middle and at the bottom of the page. Once the sidebar is open, you can click on the city buildings. Information about each place will appear in the sidebar under the sites’ names.
The lower boxes in the sidebar match the colour of the lines. They can explain how our research framed the comparison between places. By pressing and holding onto the circle on the top right, you can turn the dial and change the research category the lines represent.
